J&K to organize outreach for handicraft

In Jammu and Kashmir, the Handicrafts department is organizing a series of outreach programmes to make artisans and weavers aware of various schemes being implemented by the administration. 

The awareness camps will be held across all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The artisans from various fields including Carpet, Pashmina and Kani shawl and Bamboo work will participate in the camp.

The awareness camps are being held in the backdrop of the huge export potential of genuine hand-made products from the Union Territory to overseas destinations like the US and Europe. 

On average, Jammu and Kashmir has been exporting handmade items worth 1500 to 1700 crore rupees annually over the last five years.  

Handicrafts and Handlooms sector has been shortlisted as one of the 14 focus sectors in Jammu and Kashmir for investment along with Tourism, Power, Pharma, Education, Housing, Food Processing, Horticulture, Wool Processing and IT sectors.
