Russia's Sputnik gets India nod, Dr Reddy’s can now import and sell it
April 14, 2021

A key panel of experts on Monday recommended granting conditional approval to Dr Reddy’s Laboratories’ (DRL) proposal to import and sell Russia’s Sputnik V vaccines, a move that will bolster supplies of Covid-19 jabs in India, which are falling short amid a raging second wave of infections.

The Subject Expert Committee (SEC) under the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) granted conditional emergency use authorisation to the vaccine after DRL presented ‘strong immunogenicity’ data. DRL has conducted local trials for the imported Sputnik V jabs on 1,500 people. The jab now awaits the drug regulator’s nod.
