World Toilet Day is observed on 19 November every year. The day aims to inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis.

19 November 2019 Current Affairs: World Toilet Day is observed on 19 November every year. The day aims to inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis. Toilets can save lives as human waste spreads killer diseases. The day is aimed to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG-6), which promises sanitation for all by 2030. 

Theme:
The theme for World Toilet Day 2019 announced by the United Nations (UN) is Leaving No One Behind. The theme aims to tackle the global sanitation crisis.

UN report:
According to the UN report, 637 million people across the world still defecate in the open. It also said that at least 2,97,000 children under the age of five die are estimated to die every year due to diseases such as unsafe drinking water, sanitation, and hand hygiene. 
The report further said that the lack of sanitation is estimated to cause 4,32,000 diarrhoeal deaths every year. It is also the cause of several diseases, including intestinal worms, trachoma, and schistosomiasis.
World Health Organization (WHO) report said that at least 2 billion people across the world use a drinking water source contaminated with faeces.

History:
The World Toilet Day was designated in commemoration with the founding day of the World Toilet Organization (WTO) on 19 November 2001. On the same day, WTO held the inaugural World Toilet Summit in Singapore. 
Singapore's first UN resolution entitled Sanitation for All was co-sponsored and adopted by consensus by 122 countries at the 67th session of the UN General Assembly. With the adoption of the resolution, the UN designated 19 November as the World Toilet Day.
